چکیده
ObjectiveStudy on the effect of heparin in prevention of abdominal adhesions following abdominal surgery in rat. DesignExperimental design. Animals-Twenty male rats with average weight of 248 ± 5 gr. ProceduresAnimals were randomly divided into two equal groups of 10 rats (A and B). After induction of anesthesia, a midline abdominal incision was made and intestines were manipulated with a standard method, using a mini Johns Hopkins bulldog clamp. In group A (treatment) 100U/kg of heparin was administered into the peritoneal cavity and in group B (control) the same volume of saline was administered intrapritoenally. The abdominal incision was closed routinely. In group A 40 U/kg heparin and in group B the same volume of normal saline was injected subcutaneously BID. Seven days after surgery, all rats were sacrificed for necropsy. The number and the location of adhesions were evaluated and tissue samples were taken for histopathological examination. ResultsMacroscopi inspection revealed much more adhesions in group B compared with group A. In histopathological sections, the granulation tissue in treatment group was mainly “early” and the number of neutrophils and fibrin formation was less than the control group. Conclusion and Clinical RelevanceHeparin treated rats showed less fibrinous adhesion in macroscopic studies and microscopic slides. Regarding to the results of current study, use of heparin can reduce peritoneal adhesion in peritonitis and can be used after major surgeries in rat.

Background & Aim: Abdominal surgery may lead to intra-abdominal adhesion. Therefore scientists suggest different methods to prevent this problem. Use of heparin, by its mechanism of coagulation pathway inhibition, is one of these methods. The aim of this study was the comparison of various methods of heparin administration in prevention of post-surgical abdominal adhesion. Materials and Met...
متن کاملComparison of the effects of atorvastatin, hyaluronic acid and oxidized cellulose (Interceed) on reducing intestinal adhesions postoperative after open abdominal surgery in animal models
Background: Abdominal adhesions are considered as an important problem in abdominal surgery. In this study we compared the effectiveness of atorvastatin, hyaluronic acid and interceed (oxidized cellulose) in prevention of postoperative intestinal adhesions. Material and Methods: A total of 40 Wistar-albino rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: Group 1 (Sham); Group 2 (Control ...
متن کاملEffect of Sargassum sp. extract on preventing abdominal adhesions in female rat
Background: Studies have shown that abdominal adhesions occur due to an oxidative stress by ROS. Sargassum sp. extract contains many antioxidative compounds that might be utilized to interrupt this process. This study intends to study the efficacy of Sargassum sp. extract on preventing abdominal adhesions. Methods: In this study, 20 female rats were divided into two groups. Group 1 receive Sarg...
متن کاملUse of Colchicine in Reduction or Prevention of Talc-induced Intra-abdominal Adhesion Bands
Background: Postoperative peritoneal adhesion bands are one of the most common complications caused by foreign material. Objective: To investigate the effect of colchicine on talc-induced peritoneal adhesion bands. Method: Adhesion bands were induced in 30 short hair England Guinea pigs by introduction of talc-saline solution (10 mL, 10%) into the peritoneal cavity. Afterwards, the pigs were ...
